I don't know what it is about these special treats but they always find a way to soothe my soul (yes slightly dramatic but so true!). I don't know if it's the bright colours or the buttercream icing but I usually don't even have to eat the actual cupcake - it just has to present itself in my line of sight and my insides go crazy! These cupcakes are from a lovely little shop called The Hummingbird Bakery on Portobello Road in London. My friend was raving about this place (probably equivalent in popularity to the Magnolia Bakery in NYC ) so I picked some up on my holiday last summer to bring to my family in Kent (fortunately for me they weren't as enthusiastic about cupcakes and let me enjoy the whole lot!). I'm actually quite picky with cupcakes and I find that some places just can't get the icing quite right (for me that means too much cream and not enough sugar) - Hummingbird's icing was spot on!
